The minimum wage in the Republic of Moldova: it’s time for a more determined attitude

The minimum wage in the Republic of Moldova: it’s time for a more determined attitude

The study “The minimum wage in the Republic of Moldova: it’s time for a more determined attitude” aims to open a broader debate on the need to revitalize the minimum wage in the Republic of Moldova and the implications of a more dynamic growth. The study dismantles existing myths about the minimum wage, also in the Republic of Moldova, and highlights the benefits of a sustainable increase in the minimum wage, namely: protection of the most vulnerable employees, stimulating vertical wage growth (given that collective agreements and employment contracts are still working for some sectors), increasing the purchasing power of the population, combating tax evasion on wages (especially "gray" wages - paid partly legally and partly informally), increasing budget revenues, reorienting companies over time to more complex and with higher added value activities. Republic of Moldova and its chance on the European path: candidate country status for the EU membership

Republic of Moldova and its chance on the European path: candidate country status for the EU membership

After filling in two questionnaires received from the European Commission, the Republic of Moldova is facing the most important test on its European integration path, which is just at the beginning of this process, - receiving the EU candidate country status. With a pro-European reformist power and with an unprecedented openness on the part of the European Union, this could be Moldova’s chance. The European Parliament has given recently a clear signal of support by voting a resolution urging the European Commission to give a positive opinion on the EU candidate country status for Moldova. The current edition of the foreign policy newsletter is presenting interviews with Iulian Groza, director of IPRE, and Nadia Afanasieva, director of the Ukrainian Institute for International Politics in Kyiv, about what it meant to fill in the questionnaires for the European Commission for both countries, as well as an editorial signed by the journalist Madalin Necshutsu, Balkan Insight correspondent in Chisinau, about the European perspective of the Republic of Moldova.
