The German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Carsten Schneider, during his official visit to the Republic of Moldova, participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, focused on the green transition and bilateral cooperation.

The event brought together representatives of Moldovan civil society active in the fields of environment, sustainable energy, and ecological transition, at a time when Chisinau is stepping up its efforts to align with EU environmental and climate policies. The dialogue with the German official offered a platform for reflection on opportunities for bilateral cooperation and external support in Moldova’s ecological transformation process.

Key topics discussed included the acceleration of renewable energy adoption, improvement of energy efficiency in both public and private sectors, biodiversity protection, strengthening ecosystem resilience, and the role of environmental communication in building broad public consensus around the directions of the green transition. Participants emphasized the need for clear political commitment, backed by investment and technical support, to translate these priorities into sustainable policies and concrete actions.

The contributions of Moldovan experts – Lilia Curchi (Association of Environmental Journalists), Elena Tacu (EcoVisio), Irina Apostol (Green City Lab), Silvia Ursul (Society for Birds and Nature Protection) and Petr Komarov (AEER) – highlighted the vitality of Moldova’s civic and professional sector in advancing sustainability, within a regional context marked by multiple crises and the urgency of climate adaptation. The roundtable served as an example of constructive Moldovan-German dialogue, with real potential to support the development of coherent policies and lasting partnerships in the environmental field.
