Fiscal and budgetary aspects of the reintegration of the Republic of Moldova
The study "Fiscal and budgetary aspects of the reintegration of the Republic of Moldova" presents the main results of an independent assessment of the fiscal-budgetary implications of the reintegration of the Transnistrian region with the Republic of Moldova, and the essential constraints that will mark the reintegration process.
This publication provides extensive information on the current demographic, economic and financial context on the left of the Dniester: it analyzes the bleak economic prospects of Transnistria in the status-quo scenario, the one in which the region opts for the continuation of internationally unrecognized "independence"; models the adoption by the regional authorities of the Moldovan fiscal and customs policy and evaluates the impact on the Transnistrian economy; makes a time projection (until 2040) of the most significant costs that the reintegration of the region entails for the budget of the Republic of Moldova.
The study also comes with a set of recommendations for the Government of the Republic of Moldova, in order to minimize and manage the risks related to the reintegration process, which could be used in the process of developing a reintegration plan.
